Team Custora is headed to Sin City this month to attend Shoptalk, an e-commerce conference where leading retailers will gather to discuss the latest industry trends.

Featuring an agenda that spans four days with six tracks each day, Shoptalk is sure to be a whirlwind packed with new connections and useful insights. We’ve perused the schedule, noted the biggest trends, and created a list of sessions not to be missed.

1. The Store of the Future

As retailers have striven to be more omnichannel, they’ve brought the strengths of in-store shopping to digital and vice-versa. Stores are creating more immersive experiences and incorporating the best of digital into the physical shopping experience, while e-commerce businesses are moving away from an online-only approach and embracing physical stores, pop-ups, and showrooms to enable customers to engage with their products in person.

New technologies are providing retailers with insights into customers’ browsing and buying behavior. Retailers now have access to real-time customer shopping data from sources ranging from beacons to video monitors and satellites. At the same time, retailers are rolling out new customer-facing technologies in their stores—from interactive displays, indoor location tracking and robotic store associates to virtual dressing rooms, smart shelves, magic mirrors, augmented reality and more. We are looking forward to these sessions in particular:

2. Grocery

For the past few years, one of the biggest themes at retail conferences was “omnichannel,” with both traditional brick-and-mortar retailers and pure-play online retailers focusing on being everywhere their customers are and seamlessly integrating every channel. The grocery business, a behemoth worth around $675 billion in the U.S. alone, has been slower to adapt to the omnichannel mindset.

With Amazon’s recent acquisition of Whole Foods, it’s likely that the grocery business is headed for a shake-up. Grocery is one of the main tracks at Shoptalk this year. This track focuses on how consumers discover, shop, and buy groceries in the digital age. Here are a few sessions we’re excited about:

3. Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of retail’s favorite buzzwords, with a host of new technologies promising to solve various pain points across the retail value chain, from the supply chain to merchandising and marketing. These sessions aim to illuminate the wide-ranging use cases of AI for brands and retailers who struggle to understand where this technology can have the biggest impact on their business.

At Custora, we believe leveraging customer data is the key to sustainable growth. We use machine learning algorithms to improve personalization initiatives and create more relevant and engaging experiences for customers.
